What is Yoga Thrive?: Yoga Thrive is a research-based, therapeutic yoga program for cancer survivors and their support persons that was conducted at the University of Calgary. Past participants have found significant benefits in overall mood, stress levels, physical strength, and quality of life. This gentle, 7-week yoga program is based on hatha yoga, but has been modified for cancer survivors - especially those who are experiencing stiffness, pain, stress or fatigue.
The TTP is designed for yoga teachers who want to expand their knowledge and expertise. You will:
learn about the effects of chemotherapy and radiation, and the general physiology of someone who has had a cancer experience;
learn how yoga works to improve the situation anatomically, physiologically, psychologically;
learn how to modify the poses for physical issues both related and unrelated to a cancer experience;
hear from past participants and yoga teachers who have been involved in this program and the impact on their life.
Following the teacher training, you will receive ongoing support via my blog for teachers, a place where you can pose questions and receive ideas and suggestions for your classes.
Prerequisites: You must have a minimum 200-hour yoga teacher certification and at least 6 hours of previous therapeutic yoga training with me. I will be hosting a 6 hour session on the day prior to the training to meet the therapeutic pre-requisite. The watching of the Yoga for Cancer Survivors DVD is also necessary prior to attending the teacher training program. This DVD is available from my website
Are you a cancer survivor?
